“When you’re showcasing a Masterpiece, the tool needs to feel like one too.”
Back in 2022, we kicked off a collaboration with Vehicle Experts on something that sounded simple at first — a configurator for their sub-brand Masterpiece. But of course, as with anything involving beautifully restored Porsche classics and high-tech under-the-hood wizardry, things are never that simple — in the best way.
Masterpiece isn’t just any car line. These are backdated Porsche builds, blending classic lines and iconic styling with thoroughly modern upgrades. The goal is to keep the timeless look while enhancing performance, comfort, and technology in ways that feel invisible — until you drive it. And that’s where the configurator comes in: giving customers a way to explore and customize their dream car, piece by piece.
We started with a basic idea — build a clean, interactive tool that works on desktop and iOS. But from day one, the ambition was bigger than just checking boxes and changing paint colors. We traveled to their site to 3D scan real cars, multiple engines, interiors, materials, and color samples. The result? A high-fidelity digital foundation that feels real, down to the stitching.
But building an app like this isn’t just about modeling and programming. It’s about capturing the emotion behind the machine. The feel of stepping into a tailored classic that’s been made just for you. That takes more than tech — it takes passion, and a team that cares as much about the experience as the specs.
Now, as we gear up for Masterpiece 2025, the configurator is evolving into something even sharper.
We’re redesigning the interface from the ground up — giving it a sleeker, more minimalist feel, improving controls, and making sure that even with thousands of possible configurations, it never feels overwhelming. The new version focuses only on what needs to be seen, when it needs to be seen — because when the car is the star, the UI should stay out of the way.
Behind the scenes, the cloud platform is getting a serious upgrade too. We’re adding features like thumbnail storage, richer configuration metadata, and deeper user detail tracking — all aimed at improving communication between Vehicle Experts and their customers. The goal is to make it as easy as possible to stay in touch, respond quickly, and offer a personalized experience, directly through the tool.
Because yes — it’s “just an app.” A collection of code, assets, and clever workarounds running on some device. But when the job is to present something as rare and refined as a Masterpiece car, the app itself needs to feel like a Masterpiece too.
